Things to do

Things to do in Da Nang : There are a thousand things to do here, but we suggest you the most famous places
  • My Son Sanctuary
70km southwest of Danang City and 40km away from the Ancient Town of Hoi An, a large complex of religious relics that comprises more than 70 architectural works is a popular destination for those who appreciate architecture, history and pure spectacle. Known as My Son (Vietnamese: Mỹ Sơn), the group of temple-towers that connect to each other with complicated red brick designs is a proud display of the evolution of Vietnam’s culture and a foremost evidence of Asian civilization which is now extinct. My Son Sanctuary is a large complex of religious relics, of which, the main component of the Cham architectural design is the tower, built to reflect the divinity of the king. It is located in a narrow valley in Duy Tan Commune, Duy Xuyen District of Quang Nam Province. It nestles in a town found at the end of a bumpy road through tropical jungle.
  • Cham Museum
The Cham Museum is the main attraction of Da Nang and is worth the trip, even if you're coming all the way from Hoi An. This old sandstone building houses an excellent collection of Cham art and sculpture. The museum was completed in 1916, with Da Nang chosen as the location due to its proximity to the former kingdom of Champa. The museum follows Cham architectural themes, and was enlarged in 1936 as its collection increased. There are now more than 300 original pieces of sculpture. Each of the museum's ten rooms bears the name of the district in which the relics were found.
  • Ba Na Hills
Located about 45km west of Da Nang, Ba Na Mountain was used during the French colonial period as a summer retreat. In the old days, the French colonials used to be born up the winding, 16km road to the top on palanquins. Nowadays, the road is well paved, but still very steep. At the top are the remains of some French villas -- there isn't much left of them, but the ones accessible on foot do give an interesting picture of life on the mountain. There's even an old French wine cellar that can be visited at the Ba Na By Night Resort. Dug into the mountain to keep the wine at the perfect temperature, it's the one structure that has perfectly withstood the passage of time -- shows the French had their priorities in order.
  • The Marble Mountains
20 kms south of Danang. The Marble Mountains or Non Nuoc are actually five granite peaks they are a great half day trip from Danang or as a stopover on the way to Hoi An. There are caves to explore, temples and lots of stairs. The drinks and trinket sellers can get a little annoying but the climb up to the top is worth it and there are plenty of photo opportunities.
  • Beaches
East of the city centre. There are 30 kms of beaches stretching from Danang all the way down to Hoian and even further south. As you would expect, the beaches further from the city are best, particularly China Beach near the Marble Mountain area. All of the beaches are rarely crowded and most of them have some form of seating and umbrellas for rent.

  • Hai Van Pass
20 kms north of Danang. The road up Hai Van pass is a great drive made much safer now that most truck traffic uses the newly completed Hai Van Tunnel. Less traffic means you can spend more time looking at the spectacular views and stopping to take photos. There are some refreshment places at the top and an old bombed out French built lookout.

  • Danang International Fireworks Competition
Da Nang is the Cannes of fireworks festivals. For two nights each year, the sky over the Han River becomes the canvas of world-class pyrotechnicians and designers, who come from all over the world to compete with each other for the attentions of the gathered spectators. Due to the extremely strong competition, you can be confident of witnessing state-of-the-art pyro-musical displays, each one presented by a different national team, ranging from the UK to South Korea. Each team has twenty minutes to convince the jury and the crowd of being the world’s leading fireworks promotion team.
